The airport’s aviation director, Doug Feore, presented renderings and said the FBO is being developed as a community gateway: “we like to look at this as a community project, not an airport project.” Feore described a music‑themed design — including piano-key and guitar-like elements — and said the facility will include a two‑story restaurant and LED outline lighting visible from the air.
Mayor Lester Miller and commissioners who spoke framed the work as an economic-development tool. Commissioner Bill Howell, who serves on the airport committee and said he is a pilot, called the project a “first impression” asset for recruiting business. Commissioners noted airport hangars can produce substantial ad valorem tax revenue when high-value aircraft are based locally.
The GDOT grant acceptance authorizes the county to proceed with hangar construction and related site work; commissioners said previously budgeted capital funds will supply the local match. The motion to accept the GDOT funds passed unanimously and will be carried on the meeting’s consent agenda.
