Royal Oak expands student broadcasting and schedules three virtual learning days for state testing in April

Curriculum Director Dr. Lou Ioannis summarized the broadcasting pathway and the high school studio’s real‑world learning opportunities, including an introductory video production class, an advanced live‑broadcast class and a film/documentary production course; he noted co‑op employment through WAK and outside partnerships. Two student productions — one athletic production and one coverage of a community sculpture dedication — were nominated for awards in the student division of a Michigan broadcasting organization.
On testing logistics, Dr. Ioannis said the district will use Section 21f of the State School Aid Act to schedule three virtual learning days to reduce crowding during spring testing: one day at the middle school (April 9) and two days at the high school (April 10 and April 11). He said the plan will allow smaller in‑person testing groups, better proctoring ratios and accommodations (including extended‑time IEP arrangements); staff and teachers will be available for students learning from home to check in if families request support. Lunch will be served on the days students test in person.
