Board approves makeup plan after storm: two March e‑learning days, full May days to avoid extending school year

The board voted Feb. 10 to adopt a three‑day makeup plan for time lost during a September storm and additional e‑learning days. Superintendent Dr. Thorsland explained state rules: districts must make up the first three missed days; boards may forgive additional days up to three; the state board may forgive further days.
To avoid delaying the school year, the district will designate March 17 and March 18 as e‑learning makeup days (administration will post assignments then and allow students to complete work by March 31). The district also will convert the last two scheduled half days in May to full days. Administrators said this avoids adding in‑person days after Memorial Day and gives families clearer advance notice.
Board members asked whether e‑learning assignments would require live instruction; administration said assignments would be asynchronous (no live instruction required) and that teachers would not be expected to do live classes those days. The plan passed on a voice vote.
