Bridal Thomas, representing the design team, and other staff described work across multiple areas of the new high school campus: demolition and earthwork, metal stud framing and roof installation, interior electrical and plumbing, and mock-ups for exterior materials. The report included photos and site observations shared with the board.
Representatives said demolition had begun for some on-site buildings and that poured concrete slabs and framing were in place for the north wing. The contractor reported roofs and weatherproofing being installed, with drywall and interior finishes scheduled to follow. Project staff said the team is managing sequencing to limit disruption and coordinate systems and furniture installation; two classrooms will receive sample furniture for staff and student evaluation.
On athletics and site circulation, staff said they continue to work with city authorities on right-of-way and easement issues tied to improved bus access; a public hearing related to right-of-way closures is scheduled for a forthcoming city council date. Staff also said some on-field storage remains necessary for band and athletics, and the athletics phase group will re-convene a focus group of coaches and users to refine priorities for Phase 1 athletic construction.
Facilities staff noted minor change orders have arisen from revealed conditions during demolition but described the cost impact as minimal for a project of this scope. The program manager said the pair of phases are running on different schedules and that Area 2 construction has progressed ahead of prior sequencing because materials were available in warehouses.
The board's long-range planning committee has reconvened and will meet several times with the goal of bringing recommendations to the board in May, staff said. Members emphasized the committee includes site administrators and parent and community representatives and that teachers and program leads should route space requests through site administration for committee consideration.
