Putnam County confirms Marlene Barrett as director of Office for Senior Resources

Barrett, who told legislators she has worked in the Office for Senior Resources for 13 years and served as deputy director for nearly two years, said she began as a case worker and expects to “end in this department.” She described the department’s close connection to the local community and said her family and friends have used its services.
Barrett noted demographic pressures: she told the committee older adults now make up roughly 26 percent of the county population and the department must “acclimate” to the needs of residents aging in place. Legislators who took part in the county’s interview process praised Barrett’s experience and said they expected her to continue the department’s current programs while expanding services to meet growing demand.
The committee confirmed Barrett by voice vote. Barrett’s appointment is a civil-service appointment, and staff said the promotion comes from within the department rather than an external hire.
