Putnam County to use OCFS grant funds for retention bonuses at Child Advocacy Center

The Personnel Committee on Feb. 13 approved a budgetary amendment to allocate state Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) grant money to one-time retention bonuses for four employees at Putnam County’s Child Advocacy Center (CAC).
Commissioner Sarah Servedillo told the committee the county learned in mid-November it had 30 days to submit for the OCFS grant and that the grant came with specific allowable uses. She asked the committee to use the award to provide a retention bonus for four CAC employees; she said the total equals $13,200, or a little over $3,000 per employee.
Servedillo said the CAC has had a prolonged vacancy and that the county previously reclassified one vacant CAC position into a coordinator role, which has been filled. She told legislators that using the OCFS funds for retention recognizes the unique demands on CAC staff and helps stabilize the center’s operations.
The committee approved the amendment by voice vote. County staff said there was no additional fiscal impact to the county budget because the bonuses will be paid from the grant funds.
