District announces pre-K lottery results; kindergarten registration opens

Staff member announced that the district finalized its 2025–26 pre-K lottery on Jan. 31 and that 61 valid entries were received. "After a random drawing, spots went to the first 40 names on that list. All families have been notified of their spot or their status on the waiting list," Staff member said. The presenter added that the district will continue down the waiting list if spots are not taken.

Staff member also announced kindergarten registration is open for students who will turn 5 by June 1, 2025 and directed families to register online at www.fmasd.org. "So for students turning 5 by 06/01/2025, students are encouraged families are encouraged to go online, www.fmasd.org, to begin online registration for kindergarten as well," Staff member said.

A Board member placed the enrollment numbers in recent context: "I believe that 3 years ago, we didn't have any district run pre k. We started 1 class from 3 years ago with I think we had 23 of them, requests for those 20 slots. 2 years later, we all supported the the creation of another classroom. They had 45 or 46 requests. And now I have 61 valid requests, which I think really says something about the decisions you've made and what those teachers are doing," the Board member said.

The announcements were informational; no board vote or formal enrollment policy change was recorded at the meeting.
