Darlene McGraw, a Mechanicsville resident, told the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 20 that the county's housing crisis is worsening and urged supervisors to seek solutions.
"The housing crisis is getting worse and worse," McGraw said, and she described rising rents and the strain on people who cannot afford homeownership. McGraw said a 2023 figure she cited for monthly rent was $1,347 and argued that hourly workers face untenable schedules and costs to meet that level of housing expense.
McGraw also said county employees and residents who use social services increasingly need housing assistance, and she asked supervisors to talk with people in their own neighborhoods about the problem. She did not propose specific county actions on Feb. 20.
The board received her comments during the public input portion of the meeting; no formal action or referral was recorded on the transcript.
