Board reviews policy revisions; several policies set for second reading and rescission

For first reading, the board reviewed several 600‑series changes. Staff said revisions to Policy 611 (Purchases Budgeted) remove outdated language on specific purchasing determinations and clarify who authorizes purchases within budgetary limits, and address purchase orders and emergency purchase order authorization consistent with the school code. Policy 613 (Cooperative Purchasing) was revised to state cooperative purchasing agreements must comply with competitive bidding under school code. Policy 614 (Payroll Authorization) and Policy 615 (Payroll Deductions) were also updated; payroll changes clarify documentation, time‑sheet procedures, withholding and voluntary deduction listings.
Staff said these 600‑series changes will remain in first reading for the customary two‑month notice period before final action.
On second reading, the board reviewed updated 800‑series policies including 815 (Accessible Use of Technology), 815.3 (Staff Mobile Device Policy), 815.5 (Social Media), 815.6 (Artificial Intelligence) and 237 (Student Mobile Device Policy). Staff said they received some questions from employees seeking interpretive clarity but no substantive public comments beyond the updates discussed last month. The board was told the 800‑series policies will be brought back for final approval at the next meeting in two weeks.
Staff also recommended rescinding policies 815.1, 815.2 and 815.4 because their language has been incorporated into the revised policies. Board members asked clarifying questions about numbering and placement; staff explained the rescissions and renumbering were intended to keep the policy manual clear.
No final votes on the 600‑series or rescissions were taken at the meeting; the 800‑series policies were presented for second reading and final approval is scheduled for the next meeting.
