Rep. Judy Boyle, R-District 9, reintroduced RS 32,354 on Wednesday, saying the draft clarifies the definition of "commercial free speech" so that advertising of products that are illegal under federal, state or local law would not be protected.
Boyle told the committee she learned last year that Idaho residents were seeing billboards and newspaper ads for marijuana shops located across state lines. "There’s such a thing as commercial free speech regardless of what it is," she said, and argued the bill makes clear that the product must be illegal federally and in the state or city for the restriction to apply. She said the measure passed the House the prior year but failed in the Senate.
Representative Scogg moved to introduce RS 32,354; the committee voted to introduce the draft on a voice vote and the motion carried.
