Batavia Police present $3,000 check to post-prom committee to support safe post-prom activities

At the Feb. 17 Batavia City Council meeting, Chief (unnamed) presented a $3,000 check from police-department funds—collected in part from DUI fines and liquor/cigarette compliance checks—to the Batavia post-prom committee.
City staff said those funds, which originate from collections tied to enforcement activities designed to prevent underage alcohol and tobacco sales, are held in a special fund used to support safe-post-prom activities. The check will help underwrite prizes and event costs for a post-prom held at Funway where attendees must remain onsite to qualify for prize drawings.
A post-prom committee representative thanked the city and police department, saying the event provides students with safe alternatives and prizes that keep them at the event until early morning.
