State Bond Commission clears ballot propositions for May 3 election

The State Bond Commission voted to present items 3–43 (excluding item 30) to voters on the May 3 ballot after staff and legal review determined they met technical and legal requirements.
The State Bond Commission on Feb. 20 voted to place a slate of local tax and bond propositions — items 3 through 43, excluding item 30 — on the May 3, 2025 ballot after staff review and legal vetting. Representative Johnson moved approval and President Henry seconded; no objections were raised and the items were approved.
The propositions include requests for ad valorem taxes, sales taxes, parcel fees, charter amendments and general obligation bond propositions. According to commission staff, proceeds, if approved by voters, would be used for hospitals, public infrastructure, public safety, district attorneys, schools, garbage and recycling, libraries, recreation and crime prevention. The secretary of state’s proposition deadline for the May 3 ballot was noted as March 10; an ad hoc election subcommittee meeting is scheduled and one application had been received for that meeting at the time of the commission meeting.
Commission staff told members that items 3–43 (except item 30) were reviewed by the bond commission staff, the attorney general’s office and the secretary of state’s office and “meet the technical requirements.” Staff recommended the propositions be presented to voters.
Minutes of the Jan. 16 meeting were approved earlier in the session; Representative Johnson moved approval of the minutes and Senator Womack seconded the motion.
The commission did not record roll-call vote tallies on the floor for these items; the meeting transcript records that members were asked for objections and none were heard. The commission packet and staff recommendations accompany the official minutes and public record for the Feb. 20 meeting.
The commission’s secretary reminded members and the public that citizens who wish to speak on any item may sign up with staff; municipal adviser Wendell Gertner participated by phone during the meeting.
