The Seattle City Council accepted and filed Mayor Bruce Harrell’s 2025 State of the City address on Feb. 18 after Deputy Mayor Greg Wong delivered the mayor’s remarks to the council chambers.
Deputy Mayor Greg Wong presented the address on behalf of the mayor and summarized priorities the mayor highlighted at Benaroya Hall, including downtown revitalization, public safety strategies, homelessness and affordable housing, permitting reforms to accelerate housing production, and investments in early childhood education and the city’s preschool and Promise levy programs. Wong said these topics "really reflect our values and who we are as a city."
Council President Sarah Nelson moved to accept and file the address as Clerk File 314540. Nelson said the filing is required by the city charter. The motion was seconded and passed on a 9-0 roll call; the clerk file was accepted and placed on file.
Wong described the political context in which the city operates and closed by saying Seattle’s response to polarization is collective effort: "the antidote to toxicity of polarization is united effort, and Seattle has the spark to do it."
No questions about the clerk file were raised on the council floor during the acceptance vote. The accepted materials will be added to the city’s official file for 2025.
