The City of Alpharetta Design Review Board on Feb. 21 approved a patio cover that Egg Harbor Cafe installed on the side of its building, with a condition that the applicant or the property owner remove stored ladders and other debris from behind the restaurant.
The panel approved the metal-frame canopy with a fabric cover that has been in place since 2021 and in use, according to the applicant’s representative. The approval came with a single condition: the applicant and/or landlord must clean up the stored material behind the building.
John Hetrick, representing Masterworks General Contracting, said the canopy was constructed in 2021 and that his firm is working on behalf of Egg Harbor because the original contractor was not available to attend. “The canopy the metal canopy is already there,” Hetrick said, adding that the structure “has been constructed and used since 2021.”
Members of the board had noted the presence of ladders and other stored materials near the covered patio during the workshop portion of the meeting and flagged that as part of the condition. The board’s motion to approve included the cleanup requirement and passed unanimously.
Votes at a glance: The motion to approve the patio cover as presented, with the cleanup condition, passed 7–0.
The board did not impose additional design changes to the canopy itself; minutes and staff notes indicate the structure complements the building’s existing colors and is not visually dominant from the primary street.
The approval allows the patio to remain in place subject to the cleanup, and staff will monitor compliance as part of standard post-approval follow-up.
