Council proclaims Feb. 5, 2025 as Monarch Pledge Day in Fort Atkinson

The Fort Atkinson City Council on Feb. 20 approved a proclamation recognizing Feb. 5, 2025 as Monarch Pledge Day under the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayor’s Monarch Pledge program.
City Manager Hausman explained the pledge commits communities to at least three annual actions from an available list of 30 to support monarch butterfly habitat and education. Staff said the city has participated in the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge annually since 2022, has a pollinator garden at the Hoard Historical Museum and plans additional pollinator plantings in a city park in 2025. Staff said there is no financial impact from the proclamation and recommended council approval to raise awareness.
The council moved and seconded the proclamation and approved it by voice vote.
Ending: Staff said the city will continue public communications encouraging residents to plant monarch gardens and that planned plantings will appear in city parks and at the historical museum.
