DuPage County hearing: petitioner seeks variance to keep one horse on sub‑acre Glen Ellyn lot

Bob Kartel, DuPage County Zoning Hearing Officer, heard testimony on a petition to allow one horse on a lot of about 19,999 square feet at a public hearing for the Chaudhry petition. The request seeks a variation from the 40,000‑square‑foot minimum and a reduction of the required 30‑foot rear yard setback for a horse stable to about 10.44 feet; the petitioner plans to use an existing shed as the stable.

The variance, if granted, would run with the land and become permanent. "A variation which runs with the land. So once it's granted, it lasts forever," Kartel said as he cautioned the petitioner about the request's permanence.
