The Judson ISD Board of Trustees approved a one‑time retention incentive funded from Title II carryover funds aimed at retaining existing special education and bilingual staff. Under the approved plan, eligible teachers who remain employed and return for the 2025–26 school year will receive a $750 one‑time payment; eligible instructional paraprofessionals will receive $300. The payout is planned for the August/September pay period after the new school year begins.
Administration presented the incentive as distinct from a sign‑on bonus previously approved in December for new hires; this action is a targeted effort to retain current staff in high‑need roles. Staff said the carryover Title II funds are sufficient for this one‑time payment but cautioned the district cannot necessarily promise the same incentive in future years. Trustees discussed payment timing and recovery options if an employee resigns before the school year begins; administrators said recovering a one‑time payroll payment can be difficult and that the district would prefer to pay after the start of the school year.
The motion passed unanimously (7–0). Trustees and staff characterized the payment as a retention measure while the district continues work on longer‑term compensation strategies in the upcoming budget cycle.
