Village counsel explained the change adds two explicit triggers to existing winter-parking rules: (1) when two inches or more of snow are forecast and (2) when the mayor declares a snow emergency, even if forecast accumulation is below two inches. The change responds to requests from the village court and aims to reduce conflicts that hinder plowing and street treatment.
Mr. Gibbons said the village provides multiple notification channels — email and text alerts, social media, Channel 18, the village website and an annual sanitation mailer — and urged residents to sign up for alerts. He noted municipal lots and garages remain available to residents during snow events and emphasized that removal facilitates safer, more effective plowing.
Trustees praised the DPW’s winter operations and said the clarified rule will help crews and reduce post-storm hazards. The board approved the amendment by motion; public comment was not offered during the hearing because no members of the public remained in the chamber.
The motion was made by Deputy Mayor Sartori and seconded by Trustee Clark; the motion carried.
