Dallastown students and Mini THON raise $12,745.80; musical and arts groups highlighted

Dallastown High School student representative Miss Sachs used her Feb. 20 report to highlight recent student activities, including a middle-school performance of Newsies Junior, a Mini Mini Con fundraiser and a Mini THON fundraiser that together involved performances, games and community engagement.

Miss Sachs said the Mini Mini Con—a three-hour event for middle-school students—featured games, crafts and a presentation about the 4 Diamonds Foundation. As part of the evening, high-school Mini THON members ran activities and explained the cause to younger students. The student representative said the event’s grand total raised was $12,745.80.

Nut graf: Students also brought forward arts and extracurricular activity updates: the National Art Honor Society collaborated on a production mural and plans another mural for the Beach House Flight Center; fashion club ran a thrift sale and donated professional clothing to the counseling office; and music department students performed on a Bahamas cruise.

Miss Sachs recounted the middle-school production: “People scribe this performance to be show stopping. It included amazing numbers and told a powerful story while also allowing the kids to shine on stage.” Student families recorded appreciation for Mini THON and the 4 Diamonds Foundation’s support; one parent spoke about treatment at Penn State Children’s Hospital and the nonfinancial supports such as music and art therapy.

The student representative also previewed the high-school Mini THON (Feb. 28, 7 p.m.–7 a.m.) and said students had recently held a push week that aimed to raise $16,000 in seven days with challenges and fund-raising promises for every $1,000 reached.

Ending: The board thanked Miss Sachs for the report and praised the student presentations and video; the district’s calendar of student events and fundraising totals will be available through the schools’ usual communications channels.
