Waukegan Public Schools is accepting lottery entries for incoming preschool and kindergarten students to its two-way dual-language program for the 2025'1 and 2026 school year, the district's communications director, Nico Salazakis, said.
The two-way dual-language program mixes native English and native Spanish speakers and provides instruction in both languages to build literacy and cultural understanding, Salazakis said. Families interested in the program can attend an informational meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Welcome Center.
The district did not specify the number of seats available, eligibility requirements, or the deadline to enter the lottery in the announcement; listeners were advised to visit the district website for details.
Salazakis described the program as an opportunity to develop bilingual literacy and cultural appreciation for participating students.
