Consent agenda: The board approved a multi-item consent agenda that included: approval of minutes from previous meetings; authorization of a contract with John & Shaw Financial Services; abolishment of the Caswell County Cemetery Board of Trustees; and two resolutions to abandon short segments of Hatcher Road (described in the consent item). A previously listed Code Square lease item was removed from the consent agenda for separate discussion.
Budget amendments: The board approved Budget Amendment 17, which staff said reimburses the state after a federal/state audit determined funds needed to be repaid; staff said the money will come from the Katz Enterprise Fund and will not affect the general fund. The board also approved Budget Amendment 19 to cover a larger-than-expected audit contract: staff said $83,000 is the contract amount and an estimated $19,500 will come from fund balance to cover the difference.
Board appointments: Commissioners approved multiple board and committee appointments including a wildlife/hunting committee appointment, a library advisory board appointment and a board of health appointment.
Code Square and arts event: The board voted to allow the Caswell County Arts Council to co-host a mural dedication and to provide space rent-free at Code Square for a featured artist exhibit and a March 23 reception; staff said the space would be provided free of charge March 21 (or March 4 in discussion) through April 30 unless a tenant is found and given three days' notice.
