Former DSS employee presents wrongful-termination grievance during public comment

Latoya Thurston Griggs, who said she was employed at the Caswell County Department of Social Services from July 2024 until November 2024, used the board's public-comment period to identify herself and ask commissioners to review recordings and documents related to a grievance she filed after her termination.
Griggs said the board held a closed session in February 2024 about her grievance and described differences between how her termination reasons were reported by supervisors. She said she never asked a client to drop charges and asked the board to listen to three recordings of meetings she said would show the statements were mischaracterized. Griggs told the board the grievance concerns wrongful termination and also involves allegations of discrimination and retaliation.
The board did not respond during the public-comment period, consistent with the county's stated policy that the board and administration will not provide responses during public comment at the same meeting.
Griggs said she is not a Caswell County resident and asked that the board review the recordings and related documents.
