RGC TAC asked how to engage with screening, modeling and phasing for the 2055 Regional Transportation Plan

Wasatch Front Regional Council long-range planning staff reviewed the RTP update schedule and asked the Regional Growth Technical Advisory Committee (RGC TAC) whether members prefer high-level group briefings or one-on-one technical reviews during project screening and modeling.
Dori Donner, identified in the meeting as WFRC Long Range Planning Director, summarized the RTP timeline: staff completed early scoping and concept collection; this year they will screen concepts (preliminary and technical screening), develop a preferred scenario, and then prepare a phased, fiscally informed plan. The current adopted RTP horizon is 2023–2050; the update extends to 2055. Staff said they expect to complete the preliminary screening by March and could bring hundreds to thousands of concepts to the TAC in April or present a more filtered technical list for TAC review later in the spring.
Staff also said the travel demand model is being updated (model version 9.1 to 9.2) and that population/employment projections will be revised; they offered to demonstrate model changes and to present county-level forecast maps. Committee members asked for high-level mapping showing population shifts and commute patterns to inform screening decisions. WFRC staff cited internal tools including a household-and-jobs forecast viewer and a housing-inventory explorer as resources and said they will share links.
Why it matters: The RTP screening and phasing process will determine which regional projects move forward, how they are prioritized, and how revenues are matched across multiple decades. TAC input can influence categorization of projects (preferred, exploratory) and phasing criteria used for fiscal constraint.
Ending: Staff asked TAC members to consider the level of involvement they want (group reviews, 1-on-1 community follow-ups, or a higher-level briefing) and said planners should expect follow-up by WFRC staff as screening progress continues.
