Board approves CTDS updates and restroom work as district shifts early-childhood programs to other campuses

The Paradise Valley Unified School District governing board approved multiple changes to school identification numbers (CTDS) and facility work tied to shifting early-childhood programs to other campuses.
The board approved creating a new CTDS for the James P. Lee Early Childhood Learning Center, reassigned the current James P. Lee CTDS to Arrowhead Elementary, and retired the Sunset Canyon and Arrowhead CTDS numbers to comply with ARS 15-10-42(b). The motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the board approved updating PV Online's CTDS address to the former Desert Springs Preparatory School site at 6010 E. Tacoma Drive for the 2024'25 school year and retired the former Desert Springs CTDS number. That motion passed 4'to—1; the record shows one abstention by Mrs. Christiansen. The board discussed timing and noted CTDS changes normally follow the school and are completed within the school year.
The board also voted 4'to—1 to approve a purchase from the district contract (23-15 PVJOC) for additional restrooms at Sunset Canyon Elementary to accommodate students moving there this summer from other campuses. Chief Operations staff said the work is to support Sun Kids preschoolers; if the district decides to move the Little Cubs program to Sunset Canyon as well, an additional estimated cost of about $230,000 would be required and would return to the board for approval. During discussion, speakers noted the district does plan to move some students to Sunset Canyon this summer and the restroom purchase can be adjusted if plans change.
Board members asked how many restrooms currently exist on the Sunset Canyon campus; staff replied there are four. Public comment on related agenda items raised concerns that moving preschool students should be done with clear public notice about which programs will relocate and whether moves are temporary or permanent; staff told the board the Sunset Canyon move for the described program is intended to be permanent.
Motions for the CTDS updates and for the restroom purchase were moved by Tony Pantera and carried by the votes described. The PV Online CTDS motion recorded one abstention. The board will return any items requiring additional funding approval if the Little Cubs move is finalized.
