Council adopts ordinance banning trapping on Layton City property with narrow exceptions

The council adopted ordinance 25‑05 on the consent agenda to prohibit private trapping on city‑owned parks, trails and open space and to preserve an explicit exception for city staff and state agencies to trap nuisance or dangerous animals when necessary.
Drake said the language does not restrict private property owners from taking lawful action on their own land but makes trapping on city property a prohibited activity unless performed by city‑authorized staff or authorized state agencies. The council approved the ordinance by unanimous voice vote.
