Council OKs lot combination and rezone for owner to build an accessory structure

The council unanimously adopted ordinance 25‑03 on Feb. 20 to combine two contiguous parcels at about 987 South and 225 East and to rezone a back parcel from R‑18 to R‑16, creating the Austin Ford subdivision. Planning staff said the request creates a single legal lot so the owner can construct an accessory structure; the parcels are surrounded by R‑16 lots and lie adjacent to I‑15 and a transmission line.
At the public hearing neighbor Elaine Lovato said continuous vehicle noise from cars being moved on the property has been disruptive and asked how the owner will handle fuel and oil disposal and fire‑safety precautions. Owner Austin Ford said vehicles are presently serviced as a hobby and that oil is taken to an auto parts store for disposal; he said an enclosed garage would reduce the noise and remove cars from the street.
Council approved the rezone and lot combination unanimously. Staff said the ordinance and the lot record will allow the owner to pursue a permitted accessory structure subject to building permits, site plan and applicable setbacks and fire‑safety requirements.
