The Tooele City Council on Feb. 19 approved an amendment to the city’s landscaping contract with BrightView Landscape Services to add cemetery maintenance through Oct. 31, 2025, at a total amendment amount of $90,797.27.
Staff described BrightView’s performance on existing park turf and the Tooele Valley Museum — the contractor was awarded the city’s landscaping contract last year and staff said the contractor has been dependable and thorough. The item as introduced initially proposed a shorter amendment (April to June 30) in the amount of about $34,752.60 and staff said they would bring a budget adjustment for that amount if needed. After discussion, the council approved extending the amendment to the current contract end date (Oct. 31, 2025) for a total of $90,797.27 and an estimated $50,000 budget adjustment into next fiscal year.
Staff said BrightView currently mows and maintains roughly the city’s turf areas and that adding cemetery maintenance would allow the contractor to complete the cemetery more frequently; staff compared BrightView’s Springville cemetery workload (about 40 acres mowed in 3 days) and said BrightView could mow Tooele’s cemetery in about two days with six workers.
Councilwoman Manzion moved to approve the corrected resolution approving Amendment No. 2 to the BrightView agreement with the contract date changed to Oct. 31, 2025 and the amendment amount of $90,797.27. Councilwoman Goches seconded. The council voted Aye: Councilwoman Manzion, Councilwoman Goches, Councilman Hanson, Councilman McCall and Councilman Brady. The motion passed 5-0.
