Board approves consent items, multiple resolutions and executive-session actions; summary of votes

The Lafayette Parish School Board approved the consent agenda, a slate of resolutions recognizing observances and authorizing agreements, and later accepted counsel's recommendation on a workers' compensation matter after an executive session.
At its Feb. 25 meeting the Lafayette Parish School Board approved a lengthy consent agenda, several resolutions and, after an executive session, accepted counsel's recommendation on a workers’ compensation litigation matter.
The board approved all nonpulled consent items in a single motion (voice vote recorded as 9–4, none against). Items included routine personnel and policy revisions, updates to magnet academy procedures, job-description updates, an authorization to pursue a request for proposals (RFP) for food-service management (see separate article), and multiple resolutions recognizing observances such as Black History Month and National School Counseling Week.
Board members read and passed the following resolutions during the meeting: Black History Month (Resolution 02-025-2114); National School Counseling Week (Resolution 02-025-2115); National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (Resolution 02-025-2116); National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day (resolution number listed in agenda); and an authorization to execute an agreement to receive funds from Act 776 of the 2024 regular legislative session in the amount of $83,000 for Northside High School (Resolution 02-025-2122). The board also moved administrative items including proposed administrative policy revisions and construction management-at-risk authorizations for multiple renovation projects.
Two pulled items received separate consideration: (1) the ACE gift acceptance (agenda item 3.1), which the board approved (see separate article), and (2) the superintendent authorization to implement a reduction in force if necessary (agenda item 3.23), which the board approved. During the meeting the board approved a motion to enter executive session to discuss litigation involving a workers’ compensation claim; after returning to regular session the board accepted counsel’s recommendation regarding that litigation by voice vote (motion carried). The meeting adjourned after the votes.
