The Perry City Council voted to approve a lease agreement with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to acquire right-of-way needed to convert Charles Hall Boulevard to a two-way roadway.
Council members were told the lease requires monthly payments of $118.25, which will be applied to a purchase price of $23,650. City staff said the lease is a required step under state law to obtain the property. Council discussion noted the road project will require additional construction funds and that the city remains about $200,000 short of the total needed to complete the roadway improvements.
City staff described the leased area as extending down to the Holiday Inn Express and roughly to the roundabout; the work focuses on converting Charles Hall (north–south) while Cedar (east–west) is already wider. Councilmembers said the acquisition is necessary before the planned road improvements can move forward.
A motion to approve the lease carried on a voice vote with councilmembers recorded as voting yes. No opposing votes or abstentions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The council did not adopt a construction contract at the meeting; staff and council said they are continuing to assemble funds for the road work, which could include grants or other sources.
