HRC discusses immigrant resources and persistent fear despite outreach

Staff reported that Boulder County has a web page listing resources for immigrant communities and that city leadership circulated an open letter reaffirming service to all residents regardless of immigration status. Commissioners and community members described examples in which routine traffic stops or minor citations triggered immigration enforcement actions for some residents, and they said that fear of enforcement persists even among long-term residents.
Commissioners discussed possible HRC roles: improving dissemination of accurate resources, ensuring hotline numbers and legal-assistance links are widely publicized, and partnering with community groups and the school district. Speakers urged posting widely used contact information and making sure bilingual or language-appropriate outreach reaches residents who may not have learned of county or police outreach.
No formal HRC action or vote was taken. Staff will continue collecting resources and distributing flyers and links, and commissioners volunteered to amplify resource information through networks and community groups.
