The City Council voted to award the slide-gate replacement project contract to Midwest Mechanical Industrial Services for $141,000, a staff representative told the council.
The project covers installation of three gates at the clarifiers and two at the screw pumps. The presenter said the city received one bid from Midwest Mechanical Industrial Services, which the Slide Gate Company recommended, and that the bid came in under the engineer's estimate: "we hit budget $2.14, and it came in at $1.41," the presenter said (staff clarified those figures as $214,000 budget vs. $141,000 bid in discussion).
Council members discussed potential unknowns that could affect installation cost, including lodging and travel for the out-of-town contractor and possible frame repairs. The staff representative said the city would not allow installation if frames proved unsuitable and expected the gates to remain in service for many years.
A councilmember moved to approve the bid; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll call where the transcript recorded affirmative votes from Solomon, McEherigan, Stricker, David Lack and Phillips (roll-call details recorded in the meeting record).
