Construction update: Henderson storm shelter and Fairmount addition delayed by weather; Central turf project complete

District facilities staff provided a quarterly construction progress update Feb. 20, describing weather‑related schedule impacts and site‑specific progress across several active projects.
Facilities staff said cold temperatures and snow have produced repeated weather days that slowed field and masonry work. At Henderson Elementary, crews completed exterior masonry and roof decking for a connecting link and were topping out CMU walls inside the addition; the district still targets summer 2025 for completion but acknowledged weather could affect that timeline. “All the exterior walls… are complete,” the presenter said of the Henderson addition, and indicated the connecting link will include community restrooms.
Fairmount’s addition and parking‑lot sequencing have been delayed both by weather and permitting questions related to stormwater detention; staff said the targeted completion window may shift from winter 2025 into spring 2026. “That targeted completion… may even potentially now push to spring of 2026,” the presenter said.
Francis Howell Central’s stadium turf project was turned over to the building and is available for use once weather permits. The softball and baseball complex field was prepared for turf installers, who had been scheduled to mobilize subject to melting snow; other site elements such as netting, fencing and ADA‑accessible bleacher work are progressing when temperatures allow.
Staff also reported progress on several other approved capital projects (wrestling facility, phase 1 and phase 2 HVAC improvements) and said some equipment orders are scheduled to arrive in early April to allow work over the summer.
Board members asked for continued updates; staff said they are tracking weather days and will adjust schedules and communicate changes to the board.
