The Greenwood Common Council adopted Ordinance 25-07 after the police chief described recurring traffic and safety problems caused by semi-trucks parking along commercial approaches.
The ordinance prohibits parking on both sides of Stacy’s Way between Grama Road and Collins Road and on Collins Road between Allen Road and Grant Road. The measure was sponsored by Council Member Hopper and advanced with a motion to suspend the rules so it could proceed through readings and be adopted the same night.
Chief Eisen explained that semis and commercial vehicles waiting for pick-ups or deliveries frequently line the roadway, sometimes in groups large enough to block traffic and create safety hazards. He said the issue has persisted for months and reflects broader constraints on truck parking availability regionally. “They can’t just park on the side of the road,” the chief said, explaining the department’s public-safety concern.
Council members voted to suspend the rules and recorded roll-call approvals on first and second readings; the official roll calls in the transcript show the ordinance passed on votes recorded as 9–0. City staff and the police department were directed to install signage and enforce the new restrictions.
Ending: Public Works and the Police Department will coordinate signage installation and enforcement; the council’s adoption allows immediate implementation steps to address the described congestion and safety concerns.
