Council approves $5,000 contract for Greenwood Community Band

The Greenwood Common Council approved a $5,000 contract to support the Greenwood Community Band, the band’s vice president told the council during a brief presentation.
The payment, split between the council and the mayor’s office as recorded in the minutes, will cover concert programming, ensemble appearances at assisted-living centers and summer performances at the Serena Park Amphitheater, the band said.
Ashley Pettit, who identified herself as the band’s vice president and membership chair, told the council the ensemble currently has about 90 members, rehearses at Clark Pleasant Middle School and presents nearly monthly concerts. “We currently have 90 members,” Pettit said. She said the band had been selected as the featured concert band by the Indiana Music Educators Association and that recent expenses, including relocated storage, have produced a modest operating deficit.
Council members moved and seconded the contract approval as recorded in the minutes; the motion carried with council members voting in favor.
Ending: The contract requires standard reporting to the council and finance staff will process the payment split as recorded in the contract approval.
