School Committee approves department budget adjustments including interpreter and executive assistant salaries

The Framingham School Committee voted unanimously on Feb. 5 to approve the School Committee Department budget proposal for FY 2026, including modest line-item increases for interpretation services, professional development and an executive assistant salary adjustment.
David Gordon, who presented the subcommittee report, summarized the package that the Finance and Operations Subcommittee reviewed Jan. 23. The FY '26 recommendations included: an increase of $20 to the miscellaneous line for potential graduation-gown costs, $2,000 for expanded professional development (to cover potential higher training and hotel costs), an additional $9,600 to cover interpretation costs for open-session meetings, and an increase to the executive assistant's salary to mirror a unit B salary increase.
The motion to approve the proposed School Committee Department budget inclusive of the executive assistant adjustment was moved by Jennifer Moshe and seconded by LaBarge (as recorded in the meeting). A roll-call vote by district recorded unanimous approval.
The presentation noted that most other line items remain stable at the FY '25 level and that MASC had not yet provided final figures for training cost increases. The committee indicated no further changes and approved the subcommittee's recommendations.
Next steps: The approved budget will be included in the School Committee's materials for FY '26 planning and posted with the district's budget documents.
