Madison County Board of Education honors student and staff achievements

The board highlighted multiple individual and team championships, including Buckhorn High School swimmer Liberty Madere, who was introduced as the 2024–25 HSA Class 6A/7A 200-yard individual medley state champion; Buckhorn track’s Marcus Lee, identified as the Class 6A indoor high jump champion; Sparkman High School’s Joe Quez Keith, who won the state 400-meter dash and broke the 7A state indoor record; Hazel Green High School runner Bryce McCleary, the 2024 cross country Class 6A state champion who also won the 1600- and 3200-meter indoor state titles; and the Hazel Green High School Esports team, which the board recognized with a resolution for winning the Splatoon 3 state championship on Dec. 16, 2024.
Superintendent (unnamed in the transcript) introduced the recognitions and asked the board to join in congratulating students and coaches. Matt Rogers, the district athletic administrator, presented details about the athletic accomplishments and named coaches and staff involved in the students’ development. Among coaches and staff mentioned in the presentations were head coach Amelia Beimroer and assistant Mary Carter (swimming), head coach Lisa Morgan (track), coach Jeff McNeely (Sparkman track), coach William Travis Bailey (Hazel Green Esports) and Hazel Green principal Dr. Quinn Headen.
The board also acknowledged Lynn Fanning Elementary School’s designation as a “most improved” performing school; assistant principal Allison Vernon accepted recognition on behalf of the school. The superintendent presented a copy of the state resolution for the board minutes.
Board members and district staff spoke briefly about district extracurricular seasons, academic recognitions such as a National Honor Society semifinalist from Buckhorn High School, and other district highlights.
