Milford officials report middle school construction progress; board clears abatement and demolition GMP

Construction of the new Milford Middle School remains on track for an Aug. 1 completion date, and the board approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) amendment for abatement and demolition of the existing junior high, reportedly about $60,000 under budget.
Milford Exempted Village School District officials told the board Feb. 20 that construction on the new middle school continues to progress and remains on schedule for an Aug. 1 completion. Jeff (district project representative) reviewed recent site and interior work, showing installed piping, tile and ceiling systems in classrooms, finished gym joists and delivered casework.
Jeff said crews will pour concrete for the building's "learning stairs" soon and that exterior brick veneer work should be completed by April 1. The administration is planning two limited windows to clear salvageable furniture and materials and to permit controlled safety and emergency responder drills before abatement begins.
The board approved GMP 2.1 to abate and demolish the existing junior high; the administration said the winning bid came in about $60,000 under the project budget. Jeff said demolition-related access changes will require removal of two modular buildings north of the junior high after spring break and that responders will use the site for training drills in early June. The board voted by roll call; all members voted yes.
