Clarksburg History Museum urges county to fund director and annual support

Michael Spadafore, identified as president of the Clarksburg History Museum, told commissioners that volunteer-run museums across the county need help with staffing, building repairs, exhibit construction, AmeriCorps placements and marketing. Spadafore asked the commission to add either an ongoing line item for history and tourism or include museum support in the county’s five-year levy process.
Spadafore provided a fact sheet to commissioners and said museums in the county bring visitors and tours and that staffing — including a director of history and tourism — would help coordinate growing visitor demand. Commissioners did not commit to a funding source at the meeting; staff and commissioners noted budget season is underway and requested formal budget materials.
No formal county commitment or dollar figure was made during public comment; Spadafore was given leave to submit his materials for review as the commission moves through its budget calendar.
