The motion to “abandon the alley” was introduced after a resident petitioner described a title issue discovered during a pending house sale and presented a map showing the portion to be closed. County staff told commissioners that required notifications had been sent to affected parties and that the paperwork was in order.
County staff said the standard procedure is to record the commission’s order in the county clerk’s office and then have a deed follow the order. The petitioner and staff confirmed that the closure affects only the alley area shown in the submitted exhibit and that two other lots adjacent to the alley will remain open.
After staff confirmed documents and notice to all parties, a roll-call-style voice vote was held. Commissioners signified approval by voice; the chair declared the motion carried and instructed staff to affix signatures to the appropriate documentation and record the order.
The commission did not discuss traffic, tax impacts, or other litigation related to the parcel during the vote. Staff indicated the order and deed will be filed in the county clerk’s office as the next step.
