County Department of Social Services staff told commissioners that the monthly WorkFirst payment amount is $181 for one child and $236 for two children. Presenters said the county currently has 38 Workforce Family Assistance cases, including four employment-services cases that are subject to a state 24-month time clock; staff also described a federal 60-month lifetime limit used for tracking clients who move between states.
Commissioners asked whether the $181 monthly payment is funded by federal or state dollars; staff said it is state-funded. Staff clarified that the 24-month limit applies to able-bodied participants who must meet employment-service requirements, while households with non-work-capable adults (for example, those receiving SSI) are not subject to that 24-month clock.
Chairman called for a motion to approve the WorkFirst electing county plan for fiscal years 20262029; the motion received a second and the board approved the plan by voice/hand vote.
The approval sends the county plan to the state as the countyWorkFirst electing document for the covered period. Commissioners and staff indicated ongoing coordination with NCWorks and community college training resources for referred families.
