North Hills Board hears Westview Elementary construction update; district expects remaining work complete by mid-March

Westview Elementary has reached substantial completion, and district and contractor representatives told the North Hills Board of Education on Feb. 20 that remaining finishing work should wrap up by mid-March.
Dan Doyle, a SiteLogic representative, told the board the building met substantial completion and highlighted remaining items including auditorium and stage patching and painting, installation of a new dimmer, gym equipment control work to raise the hoops, ceiling work in existing stairwells, lighting change orders and HVAC balancing.
"Substantial completion has been met for the entire building now," Doyle said. He said HVAC filters were replaced recently and that HVAC balancing will resume next week; full balancing is expected to take a couple of weeks and could extend into mid-March.
Doyle reviewed the project schedule and milestones: the final area completed was phase 2F, the kindergarten wing, and the district received an occupancy inspection from Westview Borough on Jan. 17. He said the overall construction duration ran approximately 24 months and three weeks, and that the project had been delayed earlier in the schedule by roughly two-and-a-half months related to the addition work.
Doyle reported financial and contract-status numbers: "Paid out so far a little over $33,000,000 and a balance for all the prime contractors is a little over $600,000 right now," he said. He also said there were no change orders presented for approval at the meeting and that the team had secured a credit change order of more than $11,000 for certain kitchen equipment trade-offs.
Board members saw photos Doyle provided showing the kindergarten wing, music suite and computer lab, the new atrium area where demolition and shoring had been extensive, the restored lower-level mosaic and cafeteria. Doyle said some gymnasium window work will be done over the summer and that equipment for the high school addition is on order and tracking on time.
The update concluded with the board taking no immediate action; the presentation was an informational update on construction progress, schedule and outstanding finishing items.
The district will continue to monitor balancing and punch-list items through March and complete summer-window work as scheduled.
