Dorchester 02 Facilities staff presented options for SPAN Elementary School during a facilities committee meeting, asking the board for direction on whether to rezone students and repurpose the building or continue incremental maintenance.
Facilities presenter Dr. Robbins said the buildings that make up SPAN mirror broader enrollment trends in the area and currently house about 580 students; combined with Somerville Elementary School, the two buildings total just over 1,000 students. He told the committee that the district is considering splitting SPAN’s attendance zone between Austin Bailey Elementary School, Somerville Elementary School and, for a small portion, Sires Elementary School.
