Portsmouth City Council unanimously approved several routine items during its meeting, including adoption of minutes from prior meetings and two ordinances accepting a state grant and an equipment donation.
The clerk presented the minutes of the called meeting and regular meeting dated Jan. 28, 2025; council moved to adopt the minutes and recorded a 7‑0 vote.
Council then considered an ordinance to accept problem‑gambling prevention funding in the amount of $25,280 from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and to appropriate the funds in the FY2025 Behavioral Health Care Service Fund for use by the city's behavioral health services. After a motion and second and no further discussion, the ordinance was adopted by voice vote, 7‑0.
Next the council accepted with appreciation a donation described in the ordinance as one "demenit canine training apprehension suit" (value approximately $1,500) from a group identified in the ordinance as "local authors" for use by the PPD K‑9 program; the ordinance was adopted 7‑0.
All three items were recorded as adopted by the council without further debate.
