Band boosters ask board to support instrument-replacement fundraiser; estimate $55,000 in needs

Tamzin Reese, co-president of the Band Booster Club, said the boosters compiled a priority list of needed instruments that totals about $55,000 and includes items not replaced for decades. Reese said the boosters have met with district administrators, have obtained necessary permissions and plan fundraisers, beginning with bingo, to raise money for instrumentation. Susan Duckworth, a parent and co-presenter, said the boosters intend to run this as an annual effort to replenish the program on an ongoing basis.
District leadership said replacement cycles for curricular resources and equipment are being developed so the district does not have to replace large volumes at once. The board noted prior expenditures—for example, about $120,000 spent last year at the high school on stage work—and said it will continue to prioritize capital and equipment replacement over multiple years.
Boosters said they will provide hard copies of their instrument list to district staff and that the band director and Superintendent have seen the request. The board encouraged community members to attend booster fundraisers.
No formal board action was taken at the meeting in response to the booster presentation.
