Board approves bid to renovate Plum Borough SD tennis courts; work to begin when weather allows

Plum Borough School District officials on Feb. 11 presented bids to renovate the district’s deteriorating tennis courts and the board moved the project forward for approval.
Staff said the courts currently have “dead spots” and present safety concerns. The district requested bids from three vendors for full reconstruction — including removal of four inches of surface, new surfacing, replacement of fencing and addition of windscreens featuring the Plum script — and staff recommended Keystone Sports as the lowest bidder. The district indicated work will be paid from the capital-projects fund.
Ms. Schaeffer (operations) explained that the courts’ condition has made them unsafe for regular use and that temporary arrangements have been made with Boyes Park courts for team practices and matches. Board members discussed timing and weather concerns for pouring concrete; staff said work would begin once conditions are suitable and that initial site preparation would occur as weather allows. The presenter said some lines will be marked for pickleball to expand community use.
Board members asked about parking and disruption during construction; staff said equipment staging would be confined to a small area and is not expected to affect student or family parking. The board indicated a 5-0 vote to move the bid forward for action and project scheduling.
Staff said the project timeline would depend on weather and curing conditions; if site work begins in March the surfacing and final work could extend into April or May depending on conditions.
