The Insurance and Real Estate Committee voted to send HB6436, a set of revisions to health insurance statutes, to the floor with proposed substitute language.
The substitute replaces references to the now-defunct Yukon Center for Public Health and Health Policy; it pushes the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reporting date by one month to better align data timing with the Department of Insurance; and it alters language from “requires” to “allows” implementation of a prior bill regarding medically necessary wheelchair repairs and replacements because the department is already carrying out that work.
Nut graf: The substitute primarily codifies technical and timing changes to make statutory language match current practice and agency structure, and to avoid creating duplicative statutory mandates where the department already acts.
Committee members asked for clarifications about sections 3 and 4, which distinguish individual and group policy implementation, and whether the department would need to hire a consultant now that the Yukon center no longer exists. Attorney Hurdick said the department would likely contract for actuarial or research help if needed. Representative Nuccio and others asked questions on scope; presenters said advocates had verified there was no conflict with prior legislation.
The motion to JFS was moved and seconded and approved on roll call; votes were recorded and held open until noon as announced by the clerk.
Ending: HB6436 will move to the House floor under the committee’s proposed substitute language.
