The Sedro-Woolley Planning Commission spent the final portion of its Feb. 18 meeting reviewing a consultant-prepared draft vision statement intended to lead the 2025 comprehensive plan update. Commissioners praised the draft’s substantive content but requested a shorter, more forward-looking version and asked staff to collect written edits for consolidation.
What commissioners asked for Commissioners generally favored elements of the draft but suggested it was too long and could read as aspirational “marketing” language rather than a concise policy foundation. Suggestions included: - Streamline the text and favor active voice; combine or shorten paragraphs so the vision is clearer and not duplicative. - Emphasize forward-looking goals rather than retrospective phrasing in the closing sentence. - Ensure place-specific references reflect Sedro-Woolley’s geography (several commissioners suggested avoiding generalized regional language such as “gateway to Puget Sound” and using locally accurate descriptors).
Process and next steps Staff asked commissioners to email specific suggested edits directly to Nicole; commissioners agreed. The commission also agreed to hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. to review consolidated edits and aim for a revised draft the commission could forward to council. Staff and the consultant will prepare an updated, streamlined version in advance of that special meeting.
