Farm Bureau asks Kane County committee to renew ‘allies in agriculture’ resolution and promote local events

The request matters, Farm Bureau representatives said, because the group wants to announce renewed county-level support at its Touch a Tractor Farm–City open house in April and to have the item on the committee agenda in March so county leaders can sign on before that event.
Steve, who distributed a packet of information to committee members, said the 2025 Farm Bureau local-government priorities are summarized in the packet and that copies of the 2023 resolution (marked in lavender) were left for members. He noted Will, Cook and DeKalb counties have passed similar resolutions so far in 2025 and urged Kane County to be among the first 10–20 counties to act. He also left a two‑page FAQ explaining why the Farm Bureau requests these resolutions.
Committee members responded that the county had worked with the Farm Bureau on zoning language and beekeeping rules in prior years and that staff can incorporate Farm Bureau suggestions. Committee chair Bill Roth and member Leslie Juby said they would work with Farm Bureau staff to merge language if needed so that a proclamation for National Agriculture Day on the committee agenda and the allies resolution could be aligned.
Steve also reviewed Farm Bureau outreach and upcoming events: a 24th annual shopping spree for local food pantries at the Batavia Jewel Osco on Monday at 10:30 a.m., a Touch a Tractor open house planned for April on Randall Road, and a meet-and-greet for legislators at that April event. He said the Farm Bureau’s foundation received about 57 scholarship applications and expects to award roughly $45,000 in 25 scholarships.
The committee agreed to take the Farm Bureau’s materials and to work offline with Farm Bureau staff on final language ahead of the March agenda.
