Council unanimously approves Smith and Kuykendall annexation ordinance

Oak Harbor’s City Council voted unanimously Feb. 18 to adopt Ordinance 20 16, annexing three properties along Swan Town Road submitted by the Smith and Kuykendall property owners.
Why it matters: Annexations extend city services and jurisdictional boundaries; the city said the proposal meets the comprehensive plan and county sufficiency requirements.
Principal planner Rajesh Kakkamak told council the request covers three properties that now form a contiguous area and that the paperwork and county approvals are complete. “It’s a simple extension of services and this is what is intended to happen with annexations in this area,” Kakkamak said.
No public comments were filed or offered at the hearing. Councilor Wigenstein moved to adopt Ordinance 20 16, a motion seconded by Councilor Marrow; the motion passed unanimously.
What’s next: With the ordinance adopted, the properties will be incorporated into the city, allowing city-provided services and future planning to proceed under city regulations.
