Charlie Thacker was selected as chairman of the Hawkins County Road Committee by acclamation at the committee’s organizational meeting, members said.
The election of officers came during the committee’s first organizational action of the fiscal year as members completed a roll call and accepted nominations. Commissioner Charlie Thacker was nominated and, after a motion to close nominations, took the gavel by acclamation. Commissioner Jeff Barrett was nominated and approved as vice chair by voice vote. Jason Rhodes was nominated as secretary and the nomination was seconded.
The officer elections were brief. After opening remarks and roll call that showed four members present, the committee moved through nominations: a nomination for chairman from Commissioner Thacker with a second from Commissioner Barrett, a motion to cease nominations and election by acclimation followed. When Barrett’s nomination for vice chair was put to a voice vote, members responded in the affirmative and the motion carried. Committee members then nominated Jason Rhodes as secretary and seconded the nomination; members indicated assent during the meeting.
Members said the organization items were necessary so the committee could proceed with regular business this fiscal year. The committee also approved minutes from its Sept. 4, 2024 meeting earlier in the session.
No formal roll-call vote record with individual member votes was recorded in the transcript for the chair or secretary elections; the vice chair nomination was carried by voice vote.
